Northern Lapwing!
I'm back in Massachusetts! And I saw this Northern Lapwing, a rare-ish European shorebird. Apologies for the crappy digiscoping.

Eastern Phoebe
Today we had a visitor from the East Side. It was a Phoebe, it was cute and it liked me.

Yesterday we had a Lark Sparrow.

And today we also had another sunset.

Yellow-bellied sapsucker in the West
Though I was seeing these in the East only two weeks ago, this Yellow-bellied Sapsucker is a pretty great catch here at Palo. There were a bunch captured in the '70s, but it turns out that they were lumped with the Red-breasted Sapsucker back then...so its hard to say if any were caught then. In'91 there was one bird that was caught a few times, but this is the first since. And it's been caught twice today...

Hummingbirds abound
Today was the first EVER broad-billed hummingbird captured at Palo, very exciting. They're still unsure of the record status for the county, but possibly the first? I wasn't here though...
Yesterday Amanda and I did get down to Keith's gallery to check out the Costa's hummingbird that had been hanging around for a day or so. Lucky for us Keith and the hummingbird were there, so we got a little hummingbird ID tutorial from him, and some great looks at the bird.
