Mai Po (4)
The most prominent birds of the marsh were the egrets, herons and cormorants.
Great (enormous) Cormorants everywhere

Great Grey Herons, Great Egrets and Little Egrets

Intermediate Egret (very similar to Great Egret with a shorter bill with a black tip, smaller size, and less crickity neck)

Ah yes, and "the star of Mai Po," the Black-faced Spoonbill, a very endangered bird that winters here in Hong Kong

New camera comes tomorrow, they say.
Finally got a chance to take a hike around some of the favored trails around the area, in the "water district."

Bad picture of yesterday's great egret rookery visit. About 60 pairs I think, nesting in a redwood. Got to see eggs, fresh nestlings, and some awkward tweeners.

Juvenile purple finch caught today at Redwood Creek
