To the ground

One of our sites went up in flames about two weeks ago after a truck got stuck in the middle of it and the exhaust got too hot. It wasn't us, but one of my coworkers was in the thick of it was it started to blaze. This was a BIG fire. They had helicopters dropping water and red flame retardant across large stretches. It probably burned around a square mile, some of it containing a few of our birds. Today we were cleared to go to the site and check it out. We found two of six known WIFLs, but the active nest sites were entirely torched.
