Spreading

These are the tamarisk beetles that are an introduced species that were meant to tame the tamarisk plant, which is an exotic species that has overrun the southwest a bit. Unfortunately these beetles are spreading much more widely and rapidly than expected, and are beginning to destroy the habitats of many bird species, such as the endangered southwestern willow flycatcher.
