New Warblers

We continue our streak of catching at least one new species for the season every day that we band!  At this point we're up to 13 species of warbler.

Today was our first Yellow Warbler, with this nice young male.

We also had this young male Black-throated Blue Warbler early in the day.

Most excitingly we caught this Worm-eating Warbler late last week.  This was only the third captured here in the fall over the last decade.

Barred in the net

This Barred Owl found itself in our nets momentarily a few days ago. It didn't stay long, as with two flaps of its wings it was out again, but it did pose nicely for a while.

Red-eyed Vireo bill deformity

This poor young Red-eyed Vireo has a bit of a bill deformity.  Though it looks bad, the bird seemed otherwise as healthy as could be, meaning it's able to find food easily enough.  Finding a mate next summer could be a different story.

Manomet

Four days in and we're up to 25 species! Lots of catbirds and Carolina Wrens, but otherwise a great mix, with ten species of warbler so far.

Northern Waterthrush from this morning.

My lifer Hooded Warbler.  The photo's a bit bright, but this was a stunning bird.  Big too!

My first Prairie Warbler in hand...wait, no, they were the first birds I ever worked with, back in 2009 in Montague!
IMG_7362

Our only Brown Thrasher so far, which made all sorts of wonderful sounds in hand.
